JAMAICA LAND WE ALL LOVE

There’s a popular Jamaican saying; “likkle but talawah” that means small in size but great in power and I sincerely believe that it should be the island’s own motto. Because although only 146 miles long with a population of just 2.7million, Jamaica’s global achievements are absurdly high.

Its mysterious magnetism to global citizens is continuously baffling considering there are very few other countries of similar size that inspires that level of extraordinary affection. Speak of Jamaica anywhere in the world and you’re sure to find some huge fans hankering to visit but still rather knowledgeable about the culture.

The island’s undeniable allure can be credited to a couple of things. Fact is anywhere there’s a lot of action it is sure to attract attention and with a vibrant people and engaging culture, Jamaica’s assets are endless.

PEOPLE

What does a Jamaican look like? No one can say. The island’s actual motto “Out of many, one people” perfectly explains the mesh of traditions and cultures that influenced the population. Jamaican’s are an expressive and talented bunch always opting to laugh than cry and dance than stand still. You’ll feel especially at ease around naturally friendly locals who will always welcome you with broad grins and a calm “wah gwan?”

LANGUAGE

Much like its people the Jamaican Patois is a result of a mixture of English, African, Spanish, Irish and Scottish language. This sing song dialect has evolved from being considered a broken language to being a worldwide Lingua Franca. Visitors employ extensive efforts to grasp the island’s Creole and although it proves quite a task it’s always fun for everyone involved.

MUSIC & DANCE

Reggae and Dancehall music is appreciated around the globe and dance moves originated in Jamaica are adapted in countries on opposite ends of the Earth. The moves and music promotes upliftment and a remarkable feel good vibe that is uncharted anywhere else. Musicians all over regularly employ techniques indigenous to Jamaican music and dance to create global hits.

FOOD

The world seems to have an insatiable appetite for Jamaican cuisine; people come from far for the unique finger licking experience. And although the techniques and recipes, like most of the Jamaican culture, is a culmination of influences of other cultures, remains difficult to replicate anywhere else. The bountiful harvest of this tropical paradise paired with special flavors and spices creates top ranking meals worldwide.

LEGENDS

With the fastest people on Earth continuously breaking Olympic and world records and an enthusiastic Bob Marley fan found anywhere in the world, it is no doubt that Jamaica produces legendary superstars. It must be something in the water. Marley Merchandise are sold globally including clothing, headphones and even coffee beans while people everywhere don themselves in black green and gold to cheer on the nation’s winning athletes.

Jamaica’s mystique culture is practically utopian; no wonder it is emulated in all corners of the Earth.
